Job Purpose

A Luteman assists with the application of asphalt on highways/private roadways/parking lots/driveways using handheld tools. Must partner with other crew members to pave roadways per plan specifications and if need be, to perform tasks of other positions as instructed by crew foreman to insure daily schedules/estimates are met.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Actively promote and willingly support a safety conscious culture. Follow all safety regulations and Education & Experience
• Take a proactive approach to avoiding potential hazards such as hitting utility lines, other equipment, coworkers and falling objects. Active participation in proactive safety programs to assist with reducing the experience modification factor.
• Willing participant in safety-related training programs to increase skill set and knowledge base.
• Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project.
• Prepare road surfaces for hot asphalt material.
• Distribute and rake asphalt material used in construction, repair and resurfacing.
• Match and finish freshly made asphalt paving joints.
• Finish surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt material to the proper grade and thickness to properly adhere material to road surface.
• Any other duties assigned by your Foreman or Superintendent.

Education & Experience

High School graduate which may be substituted with specific work-related experience.

Preferred Background:

• Road Construction
• Construction

Certificates and /or Licenses

• Current Driver’s License
