Job Description

Main Site 1049 Main Street Springfield, MA 01103, USA The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) collaborates with and assists the President & Chief Executive Officer and other members of leadership in executing the mission, vision, and Board approved strategic plan. The CMO provides clinical expertise and oversight for the organization and external partnerships in support of the organization's efforts to expand community access and reach. In collaboration with colleagues at the Health Center, the CMO sets the standard for delivering medical care that aligns with evidence-based practice and ensures clinical performance according to regulatory guidelines and benchmarks. The CMO promotes accountability and capacity to meet these standards. Responsibilities include developing and executing the clinical vision of the Health Center, supervising medical staff, and implementing clinical programs. The CMO works collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Clinical Administrative Officer (CCAO), CEO, and other leaders to enhance administrative productivity, clinical quality, and policy. The CMO also collaborates with the QI Director to meet clinical quality improvement goals, prioritizing the health center's strategic objectives. Minimum Qualifications: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution; Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Family Medicine; with demonstrated business acumen and understanding of healthcare reform principles. Must be eligible for staff appointment at local hospitals (Mercy Medical, Baystate Medical). Experience or strong interest in addressing the health and social needs of low-income or disadvantaged populations. Commitment to community engagement, empowerment, and cultural sensitivity. Ability to develop and lead a multidisciplinary team including practice transformation teams, social workers, case managers, and community health workers. Supervisory skills to foster growth, accountability, and integration of clinical insights with organizational goals. Knowledge of quality improvement and assurance principles related to clinical productivity, risk management, and benchmarks in community primary care. Principle Responsibilities and Duties: Collaborate with HR to recruit, retain, and evaluate clinical staff; oversee clinical practice standards. Monitor Medicaid and Medicare ACO KPIs with leadership to ensure targets are met and address underperformance via QI initiatives. Lead clinical efforts in ACO board meetings. Conduct performance appraisals and oversee the medical residency program in collaboration with the Chief Clinical Officer. Provide direct patient care during clinic hours. Support professional development and continuing medical education for staff. Coordinate with staff on patient education and communication. Ensure laboratory quality standards and environmental safety compliance. Encourage provider adherence to schedules and policies to optimize productivity and access. Oversee clinical leadership and systems performance across departments. Build relationships with the local medical community to address population needs. Support on-site preceptorship programs for students and establish peer review processes meeting HRSA FTCA requirements. Participate in credentialing, policy development, and quality assurance planning. Collaborate on strategic planning, grant development, and clinical contracts. Address patient complaints promptly. Represent the organization as the clinical spokesperson and attend relevant training and travel as needed.
