The Community Engagement Manager serves as an integral member of the Development department by engaging and allowing supporters to give of their time, talent and resources for the agency to meet programmatic and financial goals and ultimately creates opportunities to convert volunteers to financial contributors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage an effective volunteer program for Boulevard, Decatur and Central Pres. Sites.
  • Recruit, train, orient, place and supervise volunteers.
  • Plan and manage the short- and long-term goals and activities of the Our House volunteer program.
  • Serve as liaison between OH volunteers and staff, using discretion to make decisions about Our House volunteer tools, resources and programming.
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions for all classifications of agency volunteers.
  • Actively recruit corporate partners and manage corporate volunteer program.
  • Manage Gala volunteers.
  • With input from the Executive Leadership Team, develop and prioritize a list of volunteer projects for each site to deliver successful programs and fundraising activities.
  • Receive requests for volunteer assistance from other staff; coordinate, review and manage completion of these requests.
  • Represents the agency in appropriate community forums.
  • Helps sustain a culture of planning and of performance-based work and evaluation.
  • Ensure uniform and consistent use of agency databases for recording relationship and giving activities.
  • Stay abreast of key issues and trends in the homeless community and activities at Our House, and communicate these to donors and prospects.

Manage In-Kind Giving

  • Manage the in-kind giving process, determine needs and solicit feedback from the program team.
  • Coordinate pick-up of Gala auction and wine donations.
  • Coordinate with outside groups to plan volunteer activities (may include weekends and evenings), establish relationships with corporate and community stakeholders to engage them as partners to support the Our House mission through volunteering.
  • Plan and coordinate volunteer programs and annual events to engage the community
  • Develop a policy for in-kind donations desired/accepted.
  • Track donated items and submit a monthly report on the amount/value of items donated.

Community Relations

  • Work with Development Coordinator and program assistants to thank volunteers on an ongoing basis and ensure volunteer information is appropriately recorded and maintained.
  • Work with the Development team to determine potential partnerships for financial solicitation based on past and active volunteer involvement.
  • With support from the Development team, organize volunteer appreciation events and past constituent events.
  • Ensure the Development Coordinator is aware of volunteer activities in order to arrange for pictures and appropriate social media posts as appropriate.
  • Participate in additional stewardship and cultivation efforts/events as needed.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or similar field required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience within a nonprofit environment required.
  • Prior experience working with volunteers required.
  • Managing corporate partnerships and soliciting in-kind gifts from community partners required.
  • Experience working with donor databases, such as Bloomerang preferred.

Schedule Requirements:

  • 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday during standard business hours.
  • Possibility of hybrid work schedule.
  • This role may occasionally require evening and weekend availability to support events, deadlines, and organizational priorities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Prolonged sitting and typing are required.
  • Regular use of hands and arms to operate standard office equipment.

Health Requirements:

  • Proof of Tuberculosis (TB) test clearance required prior to employment.
  • Must comply with any additional health screenings or vaccinations required by Our House or other regulatory agencies.
