This Computational Biologist position in support of the Department Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics at the Uniformed Services University (USUHS) will analyze novel sequencing and proteogenomics datasets for hypothesis directed research studies, including datasets of the APOLLO (e.g. ). They will analyze molecular profiling data generated at USUHS to characterize disease biology, such as identifying molecular markers of disease status, molecular subtypes, and prognostic markers. Molecular platforms will include DNA sequencing, RNA-seq, spatial sequencing, and/or related platforms. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF). HJF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals. The site background requirement for this position requires that you have lived in the US for three out of the past five years. Responsibilities Analyze sequencing datasets (e.g. DNA, RNA) and phenotypic datasets and to identify major molecular features through bioinformatics, machine learning, statistical and custom methods and involving low level data analysis, data integration and data cleaning. Read and summarize literature for different cancer and pre-cancer, others diseases to inform results interpretation and secondary aims. Develop novel code for molecular analysis workflows and figure displays. Describe results in scientific presentations. Write results from analysis into scientific manuscripts. Qualifications Education and Experience Doctoral Degree required. Preference for PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, or genetics. Minimum of 0-2 years experience required. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Programming experience with R or comparable statistical analysis language. Scripting experience with bash, python, perl or comparable language. Experience analyzing sequencing datasets or other molecular high throughput assays, such as gene panel exome sequencing and spatial transcriptomics. Writing experience for publishing research studies in scientific journals. Experience presenting research in presentations and conferences. Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust. Work Environment This position will take place primarily in an office setting. Physical Capabilities Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods. Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $73,800-$90,000.
