Your Essential Responsibilities:

As a Driver Trainee, you’ll work closely with a Driver Trainer to master the following:

• Maneuvering the tractor to attach trailers and secure them properly.
• Operating the truck safely while adhering to all regulations and company policies.
• Conducting pre/post-trip inspections of tractor-trailer equipment and submitting DOT inspection reports.
• Using the Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH) to document delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions.
• Riding along with your Driver Trainer to various destinations, learning commercial driving regulations and observing best practices.
• Maintaining driver logs according to DOT regulations.
• Assisting in unloading trailers and delivering products to customer premises.
• Providing excellent customer service through timely and undamaged deliveries.

What We’re Looking For:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Possession of a Class A CDL.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Eligibility under the McLane Transfer and Promotion Policy.
• Willingness to handle all products ordered by McLane customers.
• Ability to read and comprehend labels, instructions, and bills of lading.
• Basic math skills for verifying product quantities.
• Strong communication skills with customers, management, and teammates.
• Safe driving skills with a tractor-trailer and familiarity with equipment like a 2-wheeled dolly and ramp.

Working Conditions:

• Work in various environments including distribution centers, transportation departments, shops, and customer facilities.
• Be prepared for moderate noise, vehicle vibrations, and varying weather conditions.
• Regular travel, including overnight trips, is part of the job.
