Cafe Rio is seeking an onsite Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager who will oversee all aspects of food safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance. The primary responsibility will be to ensure compliance and safety in Cafe Rio’s central food production facility, the Central Craft Kitchen (CCK). The ideal candidate will have significant experience with USDA and FDA regulations, ensuring that all food safety practices, and quality assurance measures align with industry standards and legal requirements. This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of the company's products and ensuring the health and safety of consumers.

Food Safety Compliance:

o Ensure all food products comply with USDA/FDA standards and regulations (including FSIS regulations).

o Food Safety Program Management: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive food safety programs, including HACCP, GMPs, FSMA requirements, and other industry best practices.

o Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local food safety regulations, including FDA, USDA, FSIS, and other applicable regulatory bodies.

o Lead internal audits, inspections, and third-party audits, ensuring the facility meets or exceeds food safety and quality standards set by USDA, FDA, FSIS, and other relevant agencies.

o Stay current with industry trends, new regulations, and emerging risks in food safety. Recommend and implement best practices to improve food safety standards.

Quality Assurance Management:

o Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality assurance programs.

o Risk Assessment: Identify potential food safety risks in the manufacturing process, create and implement effective mitigation strategies, and monitor outcomes.

o Investigate food safety incidents, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.

o Conduct routine quality control checks to monitor product consistency, packaging integrity, and labeling accuracy.

o Investigate and resolve any product quality issues or customer complaints.

o Collaborate with production teams to ensure quality standards are maintained across the supply chain.

o Develop corrective action plans for non-conformance and ensure they are effectively executed.

Training:

o Mentor and train onsite QA team members in the Company’s food production facility.

o Training and Development: Provide ongoing food safety training for staff at all levels to foster a culture of food safety awareness and continuous improvement.

o Conduct regular monitoring and observation of the food production facility team, offering feedback and development opportunities.

Documentation and Recordkeeping:

o Maintain accurate and up-to-date food safety documentation, reports, and records. Ensure all corrective actions and preventive measures are properly recorded and followed up on.

o Prepare and submit reports on compliance, inspections, audits, and corrective actions to senior management.

o Ensure proper documentation for traceability, product recalls, and regulatory inspections.

Cross functional collaboration:

o Work closely with R&D, production, supply chain, and other teams to ensure alignment on food safety goals and initiatives and improve processes.

o Ensure labeling and claims meet USDA/FDA standards.

o Manage relationships with external agencies and auditors, ensuring smooth inspections and compliance processes.

o Lead the Recall Team and conduct mock recalls on a regular basis.

Continuous improvement:

o Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to food safety, product quality, and process efficiency.

o Analyze data from inspections, audits, and quality tests to identify trends and make recommendations for improvements.

o Implement systems and tools to streamline food safety and QA operations.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Experience:

o Minimum of 5 years of experience in food safety and quality assurance within the food manufacturing or processing industry.

o In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices, including FSMA, USDA, FDA, FSIS, SQF, BRC, and GFSI standards.

o Prior experience managing food safety and QA teams in a USDA-regulated environment.

Education:

o Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

o Certifications such as HACCP certification, SQF Practitioner, or ISO 22000 a plus.

Skills & Abilities:

o Strong understanding of food safety protocols, quality management systems, and regulatory compliance.

o Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train and motivate teams.

o Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, analyze data, and make informed decisions.

o Detail-oriented with strong organizational and recordkeeping abilities.

o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other industry-specific software.

Other Requirements:

o Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

o Willingness to travel for audits and inspections as required.

o Ability to work in manufacturing environments, including standing and walking for extended periods.

o Occasional lifting of up to 60 pounds.

o Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.

o Proficiency in Spanish a plus
