HR Manager Position Overview
Ferguson Construction is a $230m premier design build commercial contractor that has been in business for over 100 years. We are growing, and our Dayton region is leading the way. We are searching for our first ever full-time HR professional for the Dayton office. The person we hire will be someone with at least 3 years of experience, who is ready to step up and into some phenomenal opportunities to make a difference. The position is a fun blend of recruiting, field relations and training. The company is truly a great place to work, treating employees with respect and honoring work life balance.
The position is based in our regional office located in downtown Dayton. This is not a sit behind the desk kind of HR job. We are looking for someone who enjoys a high level of interaction with employees in the field and regional office.
Primary job responsibilities include field relations, recruiting, training and general administration support.
Responsibilities
Field/Employee Relations
Regularly visit active construction sites to interact with employees and Superintendents
Make meaningful connections with employees in the office on a daily basis
Serve as primary point of contact for field employees who have questions or concerns
Distribute service award "swag bags" to employees in the field
Write written warnings and support leaders in communicating them (mostly related to absenteeism)
Coordinate suspensions and drug testing related to absenteeism policy
Recruiting
Recruit "cream of the crop" talent
Post new positions
Review resumes daily
Discuss applicants with hiring managers
Schedule interviews
Conduct interviews
Complete new hire onboarding
Coordinate all screens
Submit IT device request form
Schedule orientation
Complete orientations
Add to Ohio new hire reporting
Coordinate all student hiring for college Co-ops, Apprentices and High School Students
Maintain close relationships with Dayton-area high schools and career centers
Attend job fairs and visit classrooms to build interest in working for Ferguson
Complete onboarding steps require for all positions (described above)
Coordinate Training
Build a field employee and supervisor training curriculum (with tie in to career pathing framework)
Schedule training classes and instructors
Set up classes in the HRIS
Run monthly training reports Maintain training records
General Administration
Coordinate 30 day evaluations for new hires
Send evaluation to manager and employee
Process title and wages changes as needed after evaluation has been completed
Coordinate uniform distribution with employee
Process terminations and coordinate all offboarding
Enter in HRIS
Collect harness
Send termination email
Help field operations leaders reconcile daily time records
Review and follow-up on missing punches
Help resolve invalid or missing job numbers and cost codes used for job cost accounting
HRIS
Maintain employee records in our HRIS, iSolved
Upload personnel records
Run reports
Requirements
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in business, HR, psychology or related
At least 3 years of general HR work in a medium to large sized company
At least 2 years of recruiting experience
