Purpose

The primary purpose and function of the PetNurse Aide for the Placement Program is to support the Placement Program Manager, the Chief Medical Officer and the medical team in ensuring quality daily care and veterinary care for the Placement Pets, advocating for the Pets and supporting the adoption events for the Pets.

Member needs and work volume will require variable working hours (0-28/PT or 28-40/FT) each week to complete essential duties of this job. This position may be required to work evenings and weekends.

Essential Functions

  • • Honor and exemplify the Hannah Principals within self and team.
  • • Communicating with all teams in in the HE to ensure efficient care of Placement Pets.
  • • Ensuring that the HEC environment is clean and sanitized to prevent contamination.
  • • Manage multiple tasks at one time; quickly and accurately shifts attention among multiple tasks under distracting conditions without loss of accuracy or appearance of frustration.
  • • Demonstrate a systematic approach in carrying out assignments. Is very orderly and excels at cutting through confusion and turning chaos into order.
  • • Consistently ensures the team provides attentive, courteous and informative service. Gains and shows personal satisfaction from delivering great service.
  • • Maintains a positive outlook, rebounds quickly from frustrations and unpleasantness, and maintains composure and friendly demeanor while dealing with stressful situations.

Duties

  • • Prepare the Placement room for examination of Pets and all necessary medical items and supplies (e.g. vaccinations, fecal loops, slides, etc.) for the DVM, PetPractitioner, and PetNurse.
  • • Display confidence around potential Members, dogs, cats, bunnies, and guinea pigs.
  • • Hold or restrain Pets during examination, treatment, or inoculation for PetPractitioner, PetNurse or DVM.
  • • Monitor the comfort and cleanliness of Placement Pets.
  • • Ensure the comfort and cleanliness of Pets by walking, exercising Pets indoors, feeding, and cleaning kennels and Pets.

  • • Provide enrichment for Placement Pets within guidelines established by the Behavior team.
  • • Ensure the cleanliness of Placement Pets – including but not limited to bathing, nail trimming, ear cleaning and sanitary shaves.
  • • Ensure cleanliness of the Placement room(s) including but not limited to housekeeping such as laundry, dishes, mopping, cage cleaning, trash collection and removal and instrument cleaning as outlined by hospital protocols.
  • • Mentoring other team members.

Tasks you are not allowed to do:

  • • Anything that is unlawful.
  • • Physical exams on Pets except under the direct supervision of a DVM, PetPractitioner, or PetNurse.
  • • Member education in the exam room.
  • • Release of a Pet that has been hospitalized.
  • • Take a Pet outside (except when helping a member to and from their car or Pet Limo).
  • • Hit or yell at any Pet or treat a Pet cruelly.
  • • Share any patient or Member information with a non-Hannah team Member.
  • • Take pictures, make videos or audio recordings of any Hannah Pet except your own.

Acceptable Experience, Training and Education

  • • High school diploma or equivalent
  • • Animal handling experience preferred

Or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Essential Physical Abilities

  • • Ability to stand for up to 4 hours prior to taking a break.
  • • Ability to walk, move, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate, activate, detect and position.
  • • Ability to lift a 40lb dog onto an exam table.
  • • Ability to hear and communicate by voice or phone in an environment with a moderately high noise volume.
  • • Ability to see in order to determine, perceive, identify recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate and assess.
  • • Routine exposure to biological hazards, medication/controlled substances, anesthesia and radiation.
