Responsible operation of equipment used to treat, test, and transfer water or wastewater. Responsible for handling various chemicals (chlorine, alum ammonia, lime and other acids and reagents) in the water lab for the treatment of water or wastewater. Inspects and tests equipment on a regular basis to ensure proper function, and relays any variation from normal function to the supervisor immediately. Monitors operating conditions, meters and gauges regularly. Conducts readings (daily, monthly, and hourly depending on the type of reading) such as meter reading, test results, feed levels, storage tank levels, pressure readings, chemical levels, chemical pumps, etc. Will run laboratory tests that include, but are not limited to, pH, chlorine residual (CL2), and turbidity. Will be responsible for maintaining the property around the water and surrounding area (to include cutting the grass) as well as general cleaning in and around the lab. Participates in job specific training, and other various required corporate training programs; Complies with federal and state regulations and all established corporate policies and procedures. A self-starting individual who possesses a High School Diploma or G.E.D and a valid Texas driver license. Must be insurable by the Corporation’s insurance underwriter . Must be willing to work towards successful attainment of a Certificate of Competency from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for Grade D Water and Customer Service Inspector within twelve months of hire, and then work towards attainment of Grade C Water, and is required to maintain certification thereafter. Must be willing to become current with the following schools: Unit I Water, Utility Safety, Unit V Water Distribution, Unit IV Surface, and Water Laboratory. Strong communication skills are required in order to effectively present information to employees and management of the Corporation. Must be fluent in English (written and verbal). Mathematics skills are required in order to apply data to formulas that determine treatment requirements, flow levels, and concentration levels. Must possess good judgment as well as exercise discretion in the performance of daily duties. Must be well groomed (no beards), as the position requires the use of a safety gas mask. Must be able to work a flexible and rotating work schedule during the workweek and occasional weekends and have the ability to be on call 24 hours a day.
Position requires the handling of various chemicals such as chlorine, alum, ammonia, lime, and other acids and reagents. Will regularly work near moving mechanical parts and exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions as well as toxic or caustic chemicals. May work in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions where exposure to extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration may exist. The noise level is generally loud in this environment. It is recommended to obtain immunization against Diphtheria, Tetanus, Hepatitis A, and Hepatitis B.

The Corporation’s CCN boundary encompasses 973 square miles and either surrounds or is adjacent to 16 cities and/or communities that operate public water systems.
The system presently serves more than 44,900 meter connections, which include households, numerous businesses, 24 schools, and six other Public Water Systems, from six surface water treatment plants and one reverse osmosis treatment plant. The 44,900 meter connections represent an estimated population of nearly 180,000. The surface water treatment plants treat surface water conveyed by six irrigation districts. The original source of the raw water is the Rio Grande River. The reverse osmosis treatment plant treats brackish groundwater. Of these meter connections, approximately 2,000 are also served by the corporation’s wastewater system.
