Job Description
Principal Responsibilities: A Camp Counselor for the Jewish Alliance's Summer J-Camp is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing activities and experiences for children in a small group setting. The Alliance is looking for individuals who have experience working with children. A background in education, experiential learning, camp spirit, STEM, the arts, athletics, teambuilding, and/or Jewish learning are a plus. We are seeking general counselors and specialists. Counselors are also responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and enjoyment of the participants in their group.
Summer J-Camp runs June 26- August 25 with mandatory staff training the full week of June 19.
Reports to: Camp Director
Minimum Qualifications: Primary Responsibilities:
Supervise and lead a group of campers, in structured and unstructured activities, acting as guardian, friend, mentor, and disciplinarian to all
Lead and assist in leading small and large group activities
Serve as a role model for all campers, acting properly while participating in all required activities with an enthusiastic attitude, including swimming, with the campers
Communicate with the director and parents as needed.
Set up, clean up and maintenance of all indoor and outdoor spaces and equipment
Actively supervise and ensure camper safety at all times
Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served
Maintain statistical records including daily attendance and meal counts
Attend meetings and trainings as needed
Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience with the Alliance's core values and a clear commitment to them
Background in education, experiential learning, mentoring, STEM, the arts, athletics/movement, teambuilding, and/or Jewish learning is a plus.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Working knowledge of the growth and development of elementary age children
Strong oral communications skills
Ability to set priorities and handle multiple needs. Strong organizational skills
Ability to work closely with others in a team environment
Must have or willingness to obtain Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification
Must be 16 years old or older
Must pass criminal background check if 18 years or older
Must provide documentation of required immunizations.
Prior experience working with children in an organized setting preferred
