North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE) has been serving the community since 1973 with free, noncredit educational programs and services to empower our community. Students enroll in NOCEs noncredit programs to enhance basic skills, gain employable skills, prepare for credit courses, for self-sufficiency or to enhance civic participation. Noncredit programs offered at NOCE include adult basic skills (High School Diploma and Literacy Programs), English as a Second Language (ESL), U.S. citizenship, parenting, older adults, short-term vocational, and programs for adults with disabilities.
In addition, NOCE offers a wide selection of community education courses such as Kids College and Teen Program, fitness, home decorative arts, business skills and fine/applied arts. NOCE offers adults (18+) the opportunity to earn a high school diploma as well as nearly a dozen career education certificates. Tuition-free noncredit career certificates include the areas of administrative professional, early childhood education, electrical technology, funeral service assistant, management, medical assistant, pharmacy technician, and quality assurance for medical devices.
NOCE serves more than 15,000 students annually, ranging from preschoolers to seniors, at three Center locations in Anaheim, Cypress, and Wilshire (Fullerton) as well as over 100+ community-based locations in partnership with K12 schools, churches, community centers, senior centers, skilled nursing facilities and rehabilitation centers. NOCE is proudly accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges. NOCE is a stand-alone institution, serving as the noncredit arm of the North Orange County Community College District, which also includes credit-based Cypress College and Fullerton College. Part of the California Community College System, all NOCE courses are approved by the state of California.

Job Description:

Serve as the lead faculty member for the Anaheim campus High School Diploma Program (HSDP) lab.
Teach high school diploma and related courses to a diverse student population in classroom/lab settings including, but not limited to, Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult Secondary Education (ASE), and GED test preparation with an emphasis on basic skills instruction for high school diplomas/equivalent.
Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.
Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.
Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.
Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.
Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.
Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.
Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students.
Work cooperatively with staff and students.
Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Minimum Qualifications:

53412. Minimum Qualifications for Instructors of Basic Skills Noncredit Courses.

Except as provided elsewhere in this article, the minimum qualifications for service as a faculty member teaching a noncredit course shall be the same as the minimum qualifications for credit instruction in the appropriate discipline, or as follows:

Bachelors in any social science, humanities, mathematics, or natural science discipline or in liberal studies, as appropriate for the course.

OR

Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area;
OR

The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Commitment to diversity. Minimum one (1) year teaching experience in a high school, GED/HiSET, college, or an adult education setting.

Experience in curriculum development, including Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).

Knowledge and experience in technological applications in an instructional setting.

Demonstrated success in motivating and supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups, nontraditional students, speakers of other languages, and students with learning disabilities.

Coordination of support staff (i.e., tutors, aides, assistants) in a lecture and an individualized instructional setting.

Effective oral and written communication skills.
NOTE : Instructors are expected to comply with the training requirements to teach online or remotely as determined by the NOCE DE Plan . Currently, NOCE instructors must possess one of the following to be eligible for an online teaching assignment:

  1. @ONE 12-week or 44 Online Teaching Certificate including all of the following training courses:
    • Introduction to Course Design
    • 10-10-10: Communication That Matters
    • Assessment in Digital Learning
    • Creating Accessible Course Content
    • Online Teaching & Design Capstone
  2. NOCE OTC Equivalency may be granted for online teaching certificates from other agencies.

Initial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources in accordance with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and is not negotiable.
