Job Title: Sawmill & Lumber Yard Operator (Experienced or Trainable)
Location: Green Waste Recycle Yard, 2550 Garden Tract Rd, Richmond, CA 94801
Schedule: Full-Time, Year-Round | Typical Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM | Occasional Overtime
We’re hiring a full-time Sawmill & Lumber Yard Operator to join our hardworking crew at Green Waste
Recycle Yard. This is a hands-on, physical job that involves cutting logs into usable lumber, operating
machinery, and assisting with general yard operations. If you have experience running a sawmill; great. If you’ve worked in carpentry, woodworking, or machinery-heavy roles and are eager to learn, we want to hear from you.
Green Waste Recycle Yard is a local wood recycling facility that specializes in salvaging urban logs and transforming them into usable lumber and mulch products. We operate a full sawmill and milling operation, turning waste into high-quality materials while keeping everything out of the landfill. Our team is passionate about sustainability, craftsmanship, and giving trees a second life.
What You’ll Do: - Operate and maintain sawmill machinery to turn logs into dimensional lumber
- Use forklifts, chainsaws, and a variety of tools to handle and process wood, including chop saws, skill
- saws, planers, sanders, and more.
- Sticker, sort, stack, and band lumber orders for drying or shipping
- Assist with loading/unloading logs, lumber, and mulch
- Work safely outdoors in all weather conditions
- Perform routine maintenance checks and follow safety protocols
You might be a great fit if you have: - Experience running a sawmill OR strong skills in carpentry, construction, landscaping, or industrial
- equipment
- Comfortable working with wood and using tools/machinery like forklifts, chainsaws, measuring
- equipment, chop saws, skill saws, planers, and sanders
- A strong work ethic and ability to lift heavy materials (regularly up to 50 lbs., sometimes up to 100
- lbs.)
- A valid CA driver’s license and reliable transportation (must be within 45 minutes of Richmond, CA or
- willing to relocate)
- Legal work authorization in the U.S.
Bonus if you also have: - Langugae skills: Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills
- Familiarity with wood drying (kiln or air-drying processes)
- A passion for sustainability, salvaged wood, and outdoor work
Compensation & Benefits Pay: $26–$30/hour depending on experience and fit to the position and company culture
